5 Must Eat Winter Park and Audubon Park Desserts

5 Must Eat Winter Park and Audubon Park Desserts

Did you know Orlando was recently named the #1 foodie city in the USA? With such a diverse selection of local dining establishments offering up top notch food at great prices, it’s no surprise Orlando is a favorite for foodies.

We’re proud to live in a city with such a thriving food scene, and that definitely includes dessert. And where better to satiate that sweet craving than in Winter Park and Audubon park? Here are a few of our local favorites. Check them out and show some love (your belly will certainly thank you).

Gideon’s Bakehouse Cookies – Audubon Park (East End Market)

Gideon’s Bakehouse originally joined East End Market as a pop-up but quickly became a permanent fixture. After regularly selling out of their cookies almost daily, they shut down for one long month in order to redesign their space. It felt like the longest month of my life, but at last they reopened with a completely redesigned look (and way more space for cookie dough – rejoice).

The display case tempts you in with a selection of cookies and cakes and while it’s impossible to pick a best cookie flavor, I’m a big fan of the cookies and cream and the limited edition Frankenstein cookie. You’ve probably seen these gigantic cookies all over instagram (just watch a boomerang video of one being split in half and you’ll need a cookie immediately) and if you haven’t been yet, GO! Everyone should eat a cookie as big as their hand at least once in their life.

Peterbrooke Chocolatier Chocolate Covered Popcorn – Winter Park

Peterbrooke’s chocolate covered popcorn is famous for a reason. What started out as a last minute sample for a local parade at the original Peterbrooke location in Jacksonville morphed quickly into a staple for this local chocolatier, and even today it’s a best seller. Peterbrooke specializes in Swiss style chocolate and their chocolate covered popcorn is a salty and sweet treat you need to taste for yourself as soon as possible. Stop in to their Winter Park location and try a sample, or join us on a food tour for a private chocolate tasting and pretzel decorating session!

KrungThep Tea Time High Hat – Winter Park

While Park Ave. is a go-to destination for those visiting Winter Park, there are plenty of great restaurants to explore along Fairbanks Ave., like KrungThep Tea Time. KrungThep is a local Asian fusion restaurant and tea house offering up everything from tea to coffee and sandwiches to indulgent desserts. One such dessert are the high hats, and you can’t go wrong with the strawberry cheesecake high hat if you need help making a decision. Cheesecake bites, ice cream, whipped cream, a waffle cone…is there anything more delicious? This dessert is practically made for instagram, but luckily it tastes even better than it looks. If you’d rather place lunch with dessert, this is your local go-to.

Kilwin’s Fudge and Ice Cream – Winter Park

kilwinswpLocals know and love Kilwin’s but if you somehow miraculously haven’t tasted their fudge or ice cream yet, head on over to their Park Ave. location to remedy that. Kilwin’s has an inviting, old school ice cream shop vibe that wins me over every time. The Kilwin’s Mud ice cream–a delicious blend of vanilla ice cream, chocolate chips, and caramel–is a staple flavor best enjoyed in a waffle cone. The only thing better than walking along Park Ave. on a beautiful afternoon is doing so with the addition of an ice cream cone in your hand. For a sampling of their ice cream and fudge, join us on a food tour.

Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream Ice Cream Flight – Audubon Park

Audubon Park has affectionately been nicknamed the “dessert district” even though it’s official name is the Garden District. With so many amazing dessert spots within walking distance of one another, we strongly encourage you to try a dessert hop in the area. Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream is a local favorite and in addition to their unique flavors (Mexican chocolate is excellent!), they allow you to try more than one with their signature ice cream flight. You get a scoop each of 4 flavors of your choosing, served up in a muffin tin in waffle cone cups. Sharing is optional. 🙂
